MoggyApple, Keynote Event, Rumor, iPhone/iPod touch
In today’s strain of boredom, I had a look at Apple’s iPad pricing, and decided to work out what the most probable prices for the device will be when it gets released here in “late April” (cheers, Steve, you promised us late March back in January).
For starters, these are the confirmed US Dollar prices in America:

And then, I did a bit of Maths.
- Firstly, taking a direct exchange price into GBP at today’s exchange rate
- Then adding 17.5% VAT
- Then adding an average inflation based on other Apple products and their UK pricing
- Then making a logical decision of UK price points.
You can see all my working out in this PDF document.
And then, I finally came to these 6 price points. Lets see how close I am when the real prices get released

Update (9th April ‘09): It’s been a month, and since then, the exchange rate has changed (for the worse!) from 0.661 to 0.651, meaning the prices could be a bit more that this. Having said that, I doubt it will make too much difference…!

MoggyApple, Keynote Event, Mac, Rumor, iPhone/iPod touch
On Wednesday, Apple will be holding a media event in San Francisco to release a “new creation”. It’s very exciting news in the world of Mac-fans and alike, they all have one thing in mind… a shiny new touchscreen device from Apple… somewhere between the iPhone and a Mac.
It sounds pretty cool… but I’m not so convinced.
First of all… every single tablet that has ever been released has been, to say the least, shit. Low battery life, big bulky things, little point or use, etc. Then there is the eBook, such as the Amazon Kindle… and every single one of those has been… er… shit, and lacking the functionality a standard computer would have.
Next, what will the point of this device actually be? There is nothing I can’t do with the aid of my MacBook Pro and my iPod touch. Both have internet. Both have email. Both have Mac applications and App Store apps, respectively. The thing that differs, really, is the hardware. My MBP is 15″ in size, well beyond 4 times the size of the 3.5″ we seen in the iPhone. I also have a physical keyboard, mouse, trackpad, webcam, etc. It just makes more practical sense, so long as you don’t mind the size, to have a laptop… and if size is the problem, a netbook. The success of the iPhone and the iPod touch is because of the ecosystem and environment of apps, touchscreen, 3G networking and elegant looking iPod, all in a pocket.
My worry is that because of the “ecosystems”, as I have labelled it, around the Mac and the portable iPhone/iPod… is there really room for another ecosystem like that in the middle? This brings me on to what sort of operating system this device will run. So far, people have said either iPhone OS or Mac OS X. Of those two, I would much, much prefer OS X, but it seems I am not fitting the majority of opinion. Though I think we will see a clever integration of both. It makes me wonder if there will be an almost “dumbed down” version of OS X for this device – but still with support for Mac applications, or even iPhone apps. I wouldn’t like to see the latter, personally, as screen resolutions, mixed up features, etc. will all go horribly wrong along the line somewhere.
Oh god, then don’t get me started on the name. iSlate? iPad? I’d rather not… I’d much prefer the “Apple Slate” or “Apple Pad”… since the “i” has been so overused… and the Apple TV device doesn’t have an obligatory “i”.
So what actually are we going to see? Well, who knows. I guess we’ll find out in under 96 hours time. Will I be watching? Probably. Will I be amazed? Possibly…
And here is one of my past tweets to sum up what I expect…

Update: Ok, it seems like I won’t be getting my full OS X, judging by what everyone is saying… bugger. Therefore I will bet any money that it will run a more advanced iPhone OS with a compatible version of iWork and iLife on the device. It’s either that… or the tablet will be a flop.

MoggyApple, Keynote Event, iPhone/iPod touch
I am SICK and TIRED of logging onto my Twitter page or YouTube account and simply seeing an endless stream of bollocks about a coming up Apple event. Ok, I know I used to get excited about events like these in the past, so I’m not going to take the piss, but that was the old Apple that used to introduce Mac computers at Media events. Now it’s just the iPhone, something about the App Store, and for this media event today – iPod’s.

I’m happy that Apple is a strong company and whatever they may release today will be some cool new product (probably a new iPod touch and iPod nano with cameras judging by rumours…), but seriously, WHY THE FUCK ARE WE GETTING SO EXCITED.
A NEW IPOD TOUCH. WOW. As you already know, I already have one, and I have no intentions of getting a new one. This is not to mention that every other Apple devotee around the world probably has either an iPod touch or an iPhone… so they don’t actually need a new one. People have to realize that what Apple is announcing today is a big announcement for the music industry, not for Apple fans – unless of course you are brand new to the Apple world, and you want to buy yourself an iPod… but, for the most part, those people are found few and far between.
So when, I see people tweeting “I’m looking forward to the Apple event today”… and this is not a stab at anyone in particular, it’s bollocks, you’re not! You have an iPhone already, and none of these iPod’s you’re gunna buy. You are only excited because you are attached to Apple that much, and to you, I say, get a life.
My opinions. As I say, this post, and all my other posts are aimed at absolutely noone in particular, this is just me voicing my opinion. If you disagree, feel free to comment – I won’t mind at all.

MoggyApple, Keynote Event, Mac, YouTube
Ok, so today has been the first day where I have come back from holiday in Malta, and I decided to have a proper look at what Apple has released at the October 14th event…. I saw updates at Gizomodo but I haven’t seen the prices, specs, etc… but, a few things that made me go ‘what?’:
NO FIREWIRE on the new MacBook’s….?!?! Steve’s reply, according to MacRumors, is that “Actually, all of the new HD camcorders of the past few years use USB 2.” – SO, WHAT ABOUT all the other camcorder users who have a firewire port…. or external harddrive users who need one…. do we suddenly not exist!? Ok, sure, it’s not something to really care to much about, but OMG WHY!?
MACBOOK’S GO UP in price in the UK!?!?!? WHAT THE HELL. The US get a $100 discount down to $999, but instead the white MacBook goes UP from what it was at £699 to £719… Can’t we go down the equivalent to £649? Ok – it’s only £20 – but thats the point – IT’S ONLY £20!! Why can’t they just stay the same, and having the six in the 3 figure number as the first figure sounds a whole load cheaper.
But that leads on to why they actually kept the OLD WHITE MacBook?? Why couldn’t they just make a basic version of the NEW one?? If Apple wants to do all this ‘made from one piece body’ stuff then stop selling the old one and replace it with something new!!
MacBook PRO NOW UP £100 – WHAT THE %&*@ – Again, just like the MacBook, it had a price DROP in the US of $200, but in the UK it went UP £100. We may be in a financial crisis but come on, SO IS THE US.
LED Display. OMG. WHY?? Can’t they just refresh the Cinema Display lineup? Nooooo… they had to make a new LED display, that works just for the new MacBook’s – that is of course if you have enough money to spend after you buy your MORE EXPENSIVE MacBook.
No Blu-ray? It’s about time for that… surely…
My current MacBook Pro excels the new MacBook in every way because it has a MATTE screen, not everybody wants glossy… it’s too shiny when outside.

Anyway, besides all the complaints, the new notebooks are nice, despite the few niggles mentioned above. For a review of the new MacBook from a consumer, check out YouTuber
jon4lakers, who got one and has made
this review.
While on the flight to Malta I also made this new MacBook ad, due to Apple’s lack of making one, this may (or may not) interest you.

MoggyApple, Computer, Keynote Event, Life, Mac, Me
With 3 days to go until Apple’s Notebook Media event on Tuesday in San Francisco – we are all so hyped up about getting these new laptops, but has nobody thought about their current MacBook’s?
By Wednesday, everybody who asks “Where can I get your laptop from”, you have to reply, “At an Apple Store, friend, though bear in mind that there is a NEW version out, mine is old.”
What a horrible thing to say. Especially when I’ve only had my MacBook Pro since July.
RIP. My MacBook Pro. Loved while you where around.

I hope so…. Take part in the poll below to see what you think:

MoggyApple, Keynote Event, Music, Technology, iPod
Well the keynote has just finished, and here are my brief first thoughts:
iTunes 8
Not as hyped as I would have thought it would have been (eg. no brand new interface, just new tile view). The Genius feature looks great and I cannot wait to have ago, but if I’m honest, it could just be a way for Apple to easily persuade you to buy more.
HD TV Shows look awesome, but, I don’t know if this is the case but only for US – where is a UK version? I’d love to get some BBC stuff in HD!
New iPod Nano
Well as all the leaked images showed us, it was announced… and… they look nice! I want one! And, in the UK it’s only £109 which is nice and cheap for an 8GB model.
I’m liking the choice of colours too! My fave is probably either red, black or orange. The accelerometer looks fantastic and cannot wait to try it out, just like the built in Genius and newish user interface.
iPod classic
Meh. It looks good and all that, but hang about!? ONLY 120GB? I don’t get why they discontinued a model so now you only have a choice of colours at a fixed price. Come on Apple, and this new version is £20 more expensive here than the old 80GB!
iPod touch
Again, sweeeeeeeeet. Nice and thin, 2.1 looks good, liking the built in Genius stuff. I’d love one of these, and especially at £169 which is a tenner less expensive than the classic for an 8GB model. Good to see Nike+ in there too.
I’d expect Apple to post a quicktime of the keynote later on today so us guys can watch, including the 2 ad’s and the awesome music from Jack Johnson.
Laters Guys!

MoggyApple, Keynote Event, Music, Rumor, Technology, iPod
… as the title describes, here is my prediction for the rough transcript of the Apple Media Event Keynote this Tuesday:
- Steve walks on stage and welcomes the crowd, and gives a rant about how well Apple is doing at the moment, particularly in the Music (iPod & iTunes) sector.
- Introduces iTunes – remarks how it is the best music player in the world – but says that it needs improvement to stay ahead of the market.
- Welcomes iTunes 8.
- Features include: New and more professional visualizers, revised user interface, better compatibility for iPod, icon artwork view, and more.
- Gives iTunes 8 demo.
- Also mentions iTunes Store – and confirms the release of TV Shows, Movie Rentals and more in far more countries than currently in.
- Brings on Phil Shiller (or someone similar) to brag about how well iTunes is doing, and may cut a few pence/cents off cost of songs on iTunes.
- Back to Steve, who moves onto the iPod. Best Music Player in the world… all that sort of stuff.
- “And today, we are going to refresh the iPod line once again… [big roar] and we’re very excited about this.”
- Starts with small – here’s some more colors for the iPod shuffle, and now only selling 2GB – 1GB is worthless now.
- Introduces new iPod nano – mentions it goes back to 2G design, but has reasons for it… Pulls it out of his jeans pocket, shortly followed by revised iPod classic with same architecture (curved body, etc).
- And new revision of iPod touch, bearing resemblance to recently released iPhone 3G (ie. thinner and plastic back and available in white), while also revealing a small price drop for the whole range.
- Starts to churn everything down, but there is one more thing…
- After all these new products, we haven’t actually seen inside the iPod’s and seen the software, and gives a demo of new features and user interface changes.
- Says goodbye to everyone and leaves with some music artist to perform at the end.
So guys, remember it’s 10am start, San Francisco time – thats 6pm here in the UK BST. Hope you guys enjoy the keynote, and I’m sure many Tech sites on the web will be providing live feed coverage.
Remember above is just a guide – not actually what will happen! Don’t quote me on this!
Update: I have made a YouTube video about this.
