Oh, the Delicious Irony… #3 – Aren’t Royal Mail workers just making it worse for themselves by striking?

This post is not so much about irony, but more so about the ignorance of the postal service we have here in the UK.

Turns out they’re striking tomorrow. Great. I shall be crying with unbridled joy when I come back home tomorrow and find nothing at my doorstep. Or the day after. Not only are they doing this, but there has also been regional strikes for the past month or so (just so happens my area is full of these moaning postal workers…), which has done absolutely nothing, apart from causing mass choas.

I ordered a product online, with a usual delivery time a few weeks ago of 2-4 days, which arrived at my doorstep, a whole 11 days after the day it had been franked. First class? My arse.

But here is the irony, I find: What good does a strike actually do? I’m no expert, but correct me if I’m wrong that when they get back from striking they will have to sort of a backlog of mail from the past few days, or weeks, before hand? If anything, all a strike is doing is just doubling the employee’s workload.

And lets not forget, if all the workers keep striking, and the service starts becoming inefficient, the chances are that the government is just going to get pissed off with the organisation, and hence, privatise Royal Mail. Great, I’m so looking forward to paying yet more for my stamps.

So if there is any postmen/women out there, reading this: get back to work before it gets worse for you. And then get your butt delivering my LoveFilm DVD’s which are taking annoyingly much longer than usual to return.
